In her professional practice, Jamie is aware of the tools and techniques that both nature and science offer to promote and protect healthy living. Thus, Jamie is careful to recognize and respect the values and limitations of both nature and science as individualized facets that work together to offer a balanced whole. She seeks to understand the role of and advocate for how both serve to ensure and enhance vitality. Therapy, whether facilitated through verbal dialogue or using creative arts practices or in an individualized or group context, can offer a bridge to actively reinstate a sense of balance and help find one’s footing again along life’s journey.

What is Art Therapy ? As a board certified art therapist, Jamie utilizes art products and art making within a case by case context - as desired by the participant and when appropriate for the healing process. Art therapy is a mental health profession that uses the creative process of art and art making to improve and enhance the lives of individuals of all ages. |
It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behaviors, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase self-esteem and self-awareness. Both the art making process and the art produced provide a tangible bridge to explore how to achieve one’s fullest potential as well as overcome obstacles that can hinder this pursuit. Art therapy uses a wide variety of art materials to produce two dimensional or three dimensional products and also utilizes various art making techniques to create artwork that elicits thoughts and feelings surrounding problem areas and goals to aid a person in exploring these factors and work towards insight, resolution and healing.
